For the past four years, a key part of National Short Story Week has been the Young Writer competition. The competition is open to pupils in years 7 and 8. Each year, the pupils are given a title and must write a story between 900 – 1000 words in length.
In 2014, The Mistake, an anthology of the best stories from the latest competition, was published as an ebook and paperback on Amazon. During National Short Story Week the anthology reached Number 51 in Amazon’s bestselling books chart, and was also Number 1 in the categories of “Crime, Thriller and Mystery Short Stories”, and Number 2 in “Teenage and Young Adult Fiction” and “Short Stories”. All royalties from the anthology are being donated to Teenage Cancer Trust.
