National Short Story Week Young Writer
The National Short Story Week Young Writer competition ran between 2013 and 2017. The competition was open to school children in years 7 and 8. They were given a title and had to write a story between 900 – 1000 words in length. It attracted entries from schools from all over the UK, as well as from overseas British schools in mainland Europe, the USA and south America.
Each National Short Story Week the best stories from the previous year were published in an anthology and sold on Amazon, with 100% of the proceeds going to Teenage Cancer Trust. The winners were also featured in The Guardian online.
The Mistake, an anthology of the best stories from the 2013 competition, was published as an ebook and paperback on Amazon in 2014. It reached Number 51 in Amazon’s bestselling books chart, and was also Number 1 in the categories of “Crime, Thriller and Mystery Short Stories”, and Number 2 in “Teenage and Young Adult Fiction” and “Short Stories”.
The anthologies have raised thousands of pounds for Teenage Cancer Trust.
